Quercetin & Resveratrol: Powerful Antioxidants for Prostate Health

Posted on: December 3rd, 2010 by EcoNugenics 6 Comments

Quercetin and resveratrol are two antioxidants getting a lot of good press these days. Quercetin is found in fruits and vegetables, and resveratrol is best known for being abundant in red wine. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that human fat cells absorb both quercetin and resveratrol, which promoted healthy responses to inflammation in the body.

Quercetin is one of the most prevalent flavonoids found in many fruits and vegetables. The primary dietary sources of quercetin are citrus fruits, apples, onions, parsley, tea, and red wine. Several research studies indicate that quercetin can modulate a number of proteins which are linked to cell survival, growth, and death. The antioxidant action helps to prevent harm to DNA and inhibits proliferation of unhealthy cells.*

Resveratrol is found in blueberries and grapes, as well as peanuts. However, it’s best known source is red wine, as red wine ferments for an extended time with grape skins, creating an increased resveratrol content. Japanese knotweed, a plant used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is also a rich source of resveratrol. Resveratrol works to defend DNA and promote healthy cell growth. It also appears to inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase-1, which encourages substances that promote unhealthy cell colony formation.*

ProstaCaid™ contains 33 nutrients, medicinal mushrooms, minerals, and botanicals from both herbal medicine and modern western medicine. Based on the latest advances in prostate health research and the principles of integrative medicine, ProstaCaid™ contains resveratrol from both Japanese knotweed and grape skin extract, as well as quercetin. Harnessing the power of these potent antioxidants, this novel formula promotes cellular health in both hormone-sensitive and hormone-resistant prostate cells.*

ProstaCaid™ is 100% vegetarian, hypo-allergenic, and contains no gluten, artificial flavors, preservatives or colors. All of EcoNugenics supplements are manufactured in a manner that meets or exceeds the current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, as outlined by the FDA.

Does this help if you have had your prostate removed but your PSA is starting to rise? Or is the mushroom formula better

    • EcoNugenics says:

      Hi Gail,
ProstaCaid is still recommended since it provides support to help regulate the cell-cycle of the remaining prostate cells that are still present after a prostatectomy.

Assuming someone has a rising PSA, and there is MRI evidence of a small lump, well-confined such that Active Surveillance has been recommended, what is the preferred product mix to achieve maximal prostate health, including lowering the PSA level? I am thinking that a possible cause of many prostate cancers is heavy metal accumulation (a la Sherry Rogers, MD) who recommends detox as a necessary step to address a cause for the cancer. You sell a general, strictly detox regimen (2 products if I recall), but then Pectasol-C is also a (mild? milder?) detox agent. I guess the question is, is the Pectasol-C (with or without the Prostacaid) sufficient as a detox agent considering you sell what appear to be stronger detox products? What about the MycoPhyto Complex, too? Thanks for addressing this issue before I go further with selecting a product mix.

          Hi Brian,
To achieve maximum prostate health we recommend PectaSol-C used in combination with ProstaCaid, they have been shown to work in synergy and increased effectiveness when used together. PectaSol-C has the ability to bind to heavy metals and help them get excreted out of the body, it is a very good chelator. For people that are extremely toxic or exposed to a high level of toxins we recommend our detox system that is basically two products, Pectasol Chelation Complex (PCC) and Detox Complete, PCC is 67% Pectasol-C Modified Citrus Pectin and 33% modified alginates added to help prevent toxins from getting absorbed in the gut, followed by detox complete a compound of different blends that goes deep in the tissue to extract toxins while PCC helps carry them out. But generally speaking, PectaSol-C is a good enough detox agent.
MycoPhyto Complex is a immune health supplement extracted from 6 powerful mushrooms grown in immune health boosting herbs making them optimized for increased health support.

Thank you for that direct response. I read that ProstaCaid has 3 mushrooms, MycoPhyto 6, and was curious if it was necessary or advisable to take MycoPhyto if one is taking ProtaCaid and PectaSol-C. Thank you.

      Brian,
The amount of mushrooms is correct, but they are grown differently, ProstaCaid’s is grown on herbs known to benefit prostate health, MycoPhyto on herbs that benefit immune health, boosting the mushroom’s potency on that specific aspect of health. It is not necessary to take them both, unless you are also in need of increased immune support.
      Best.
